Hamas response on Trump declaration to take over Gaza

Hamas swiftly and categorically rejected President Donald Trump’s proposal for the U.S. to assume control of Gaza, calling it an attempt to “eliminate the Palestinian issue” through forced displacement. Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq condemned the plan as “racist remarks” aimed at uprooting Palestinians from their homeland, emphasizing that Gazans have “thwarted migration and expulsion plans even under attacks for 15 months” and will remain steadfast.

Sami Abu Zuhri, another Hamas leader, warned that Trump’s call for Palestinians to leave Gaza amounted to “expulsion from their land” and would create “chaos and tension in the region.” He stressed that Gazans “will not allow such plans to pass”. Hamas framed the proposal as part of a broader “Generals’ Plan” to ethnically cleanse Gaza, referencing Israeli officials’ past statements about depopulating the territory.

The group also criticized Trump’s vision of U.S. ownership and redevelopment of Gaza, with al-Risheq asserting that Palestinians are “rooted in their land” and will reject any effort to undermine their “national rights”. These reactions align with broader regional opposition, including from Egypt and Jordan, which have rejected resettlement proposals as violations of international law
