Latest Tech news - Nvidia announces AI personal supercomputer for $3000

Introduction

Nvidia's Personal AI Supercomputer, known as

Project Digits was unveiled at CES 2025.

Here are the key details:

Hardware

It's powered by the Nvidia GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, which combines a Blackwell GPU with fifth-generation Tensor Cores and a Grace CPU with 20 Arm-based cores. This setup provides up to 1 petaflop of AI performance at FP4 precision.

Memory and Storage Each unit comes with 128GB of unified, coherent memory and up to 4TB of NVMe storage, enabling developers to handle large AI models locally.

PerformanceProject Digits can run AI models with up to 200 billion parameters. When two units are connected with Nvidia ConnectX networking, they can handle models up to 405 billion parameters.

SoftwareIt runs on Nvidia's Linux-based DGX OS and supports frameworks like PyTorch, Python, and Jupyter notebooks. Users have access to Nvidia's AI software library, including SDKs, orchestration tools, and pre-trained models through the Nvidia NGC catalog.

Purpose and Audience

Aimed at AI researchers, data scientists, and students, it allows for local prototyping, fine-tuning, and testing of AI models before deploying them to cloud or data center environments. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized its role in making AI development accessible to a broader audience.

Pricing and Availability

Project Digits is priced at $3,000 and will be available starting in May 2025 from Nvidia and its partners.

Form Factor

It's described as compact, fitting on a desk with a size comparable to a Mac Mini, making it one of the smallest AI supercomputers.

Conclusion

This device represents Nvidia's push towards democratizing AI development by bringing supercomputing power to individual desktops.
