Is Djibouti part of Somaliland

Introduction

Djibouti is not part of Somaliland. Djibouti and Somaliland are separate entities with distinct histories and political statuses:

Djibouti

Djibouti is an independent country located in the Horn of Africa. It gained independence from France on June 27, 1977, and was formerly known as French Somaliland (1896–1967) and the French Territory of the Afars and Issas (1967–77). Djibouti is a recognized sovereign state with its own government, led by President Ismail Omar Guelleh.

Somaliland

Somaliland, on the other hand, is a self-declared independent state that is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia. It declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has not received recognition from any foreign government. Somaliland was formerly a British protectorate and briefly gained independence in 1960 before joining with Italian Somaliland to form Somalia.

Relationship and Distinctions

While Djibouti and Somaliland are neighbors and share some historical and cultural connections, they are separate entities:

Djibouti borders Somaliland to the northwest.

Djibouti supports Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which includes not recognizing Somaliland’s independence claim.

There have been recent tensions between Djibouti and Somaliland, particularly regarding Somaliland’s agreement with Ethiopia for sea access.

Conclusion

Djibouti is an internationally recognized country, while Somaliland is a self-governing region seeking recognition as an independent state, but it remains part of Somalia according to the international community
