Benefits of Proton Therapy- Highlight Pros and Cons of Proton Radiation

American cancer society and other non-profit organizations host various campaigns for awareness about the negative effect   of cancer.  This disease has become a global cancer affecting numerous oldies, children, women and matured persons.   The chance for survival is almost zero.  Preventive care and timely medical care may be boosters to inhibit the outgrowth of the tumors.  Around 65 percent deaths for exposure to cancer take place in the world.  5.3 million People expire due to be attacked by incurable in-carcinoma.  Therefore, better worldwide healthcare and anti-cancer campaigns must be conducted   to help people to avoid cancer. The life risks of cancer survivors are higher and therefore people have to take more   effective preventive care to build up strong immune system.  Experts predict that by 2025 around 11.4 million deaths will happen on account of onset of cancer.

Cancer is a death penalty to a patient who has to die without mercy.   Pain,  fastbreakdown in health ,  low energy, extremediscomfiture, dehydration,  throat dryness,  anduneasiness are allsymptomsof being exposed toin-carcinoma.   Necrotic cells are painful and cancerous portions/tumors affect neighboring cells/tissues. The cancer is not definitely curable.  However, modern technology reduces the pain and increases the life span of patients suffering from incurable cancer.   Proton therapy is one of the successful treatments to delay the self destruction process.  It is a non-invasive radiation therapy to heal up the sore or cancerous cells/tumors/nodules faster.

Experiments on Proton Started in 1946

In 1946, scientists got some unexpected good feedbacks by exploring in proton therapy for removing   pain of cancer patients.  Proton beam is much effective with innocuous effect on the health of cancer survivors.  Later, scientists used innovative research components and tools to upgrade the proton beam therapy. James M. Slater introduced innovative proton radiation therapy to revive the chance of survival from painful cancer.

Non-invasive Proton Treatment for Patients with Cancer

Slater’s statements are appreciable when he determines the positive effectiveness of the proton beam comparing to photons. Earlier conventional chemotherapy or photon beam was applied to solid   tumors. However, the side effect of such   laser application was long lasting. Photon beam also hit surrounding nodules, and unaffected areas/zones of the body.  Therefore, the risks of the faster growth of cancerous cells must be unavoidable.   However, proton beam targets only specific area with concentration on the identified cancerous nodules.

It is much superior and safer treatment to control pain of cancer survivors.  Precisely speaking,   proton therapy doesn’t drill into the unaffected cells. It is painless   and cool beam.    It doesn’t burn the   healthy tissues.  Cancer specialists and doctors are confident that   proton therapy is better than IMRT or X-ray beam. The emission of radiation is 60 percent less to damage other parts of the body comparing to IMRT. So, it is more live saving therapy for cancer survivors.

Proton beam directly pierce through the necrotic tissues whereas the X-ray starts emitting burning beam to bruise the healthy and non cancerous tissues.   Therefore, the quality of proton radiation is higher.  Especially, children are selected for proton beam application to reduce their   pain.  Children have soft and developing tissues. They are not also capable of swallowing pain during   chemo therapy.  This cool proton radiation is less scathing and painless.

Proton with Limitation to Respond

Robertson who is the well known director in health technology and information assessment ECRI center published his journal on proton therapy. He stated in his e-journal that scientists had limited number of patients who went for proton therapy. The reversal of pain after the application of proton therapy is not 100 percent prevented. Basically, this proton laser therapy is effective to deactivate the developing cancerous cells/tissues of children.   Only 15 percent patients who have different types of cancer were given non-invasive proton radiation.   Secondly,   In addition, doctors don’t have particular advanced tools for estimating doses of proton beam to heal up the cancerous nodules.   It stops after radiating.    How much dose of proton beam is required by patients to control the recurrent cancer? It is still unknown to researchers.

Stem Cell Therapy –Pros and Cons

Bone marrow of healthy people is transplanted to treat cancer survivors with leukemia/lymphoma.  It is widely accepted as the stem cell therapy.  When powerful scathing chemo radiation is applied, surrounding tissues of the affected areas are also burnt or destroyed owing to the onset of cytotoxic elements.   It is the negative feature of the traditional basic chemo therapy.  However with the transplantation of the healthy bone marrow of donors to replace the affected /cancerous bone marrow of the patient, the result is not shocking but positive uber.  The health improvement of cancer survivor speeds up with fewer side effects.  The transplanted bone marrow recovers more immunity with resistance strength. However, the con of this stem cell therapy is the chance of the sudden occurrence of graft vs. host disorder.  In 2012, Canadian scientists approved the Prochymal   stem cell therapy to minimize the life destruction of cancer survivors.  However, this Prochymal is an advanced treatment to resist Graft Vs Host disorder which is destructive to children with low firmness to respond to powerful steroid injections.

Cancer Immunotherapy

Cancer immunotherapy is a new treatment to invade the germs of in-carcinoma.  The body immune system has been formed by including thymus, lymphatic cells, white cells, bone marrow, and spleen to increase the body resistance power.  The body gains extra   defensive power to resist viral invasion.   Scientists try to recycle this immune system to gear up the strength to retaliate.  This theory is applied to manage the cancerous tumors. The immune system of a cancer survivor is utilized to detect cancerous germs/antigens to destroy.

Immunotherapy deactivates tumor associated antigens built up in   tumors.  These negative antigens are detected by immune system for destruction.   Sometimes, different artificial   stimulants and drugs are used to reinforce the self-resistance to reduce the expansion of tumors.  Monoclonal antibody is a hand-made or artificial immune system to destroy the necrotic cells of cancer patients. This special antibody reacts fast to control cancer.  However, modern researchers have introduced   powerful check point inhibiting entities to upgrade the immune system to fight with dangerous cancerous cells or tumors.  At the same time, good anti-cancer vaccination is opted for to restore health and reduce weakness of cancer patient.

The side effects of cancer immunotherapy have been covered by researchers.   The pulmonary toxicity and cardio-toxicity are disorders which affect cancer survivors due to the application of cancer immunotherapy.   More negative symptoms of undergoing cancer immunotherapy treatment include nausea, fever, and diarrhea.

Proton therapy is being used by many healthcare experts and doctors to destroy or kill cancerous cells/tumors.

However, scientists require more extensive clinical studies with meticulous observations to track the performance of proton radiation in the case of the recovery of survival chance of patients.

Proton therapy is not available for economical patients. It is costly. Therefore, more budget friendly proton treatment procedures need to be launched ‘for common people.
